JOB DESCRIPTION
The post holder will be responsible for the management of the corporate functions of Finance and Board administration. The Head of Finance will report directly to the Chief Executive and will form part of the Senior Management Team (SMT) contributing to financial and strategic planning.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The roles and responsibilities for this post are in the following three areas:
Finance -
- Management, reporting and budgeting of the organisation’s finances
- Monitor cash flow and unrestricted funds
- Produce budgets and monitor departmental financial performance
- Manage and ensure compliance with Charities SORP and audit requirements
- Manage and ensure compliance with VAT and other tax requirements
- Manage the preparation of and, where required, present the monthly financial reports.
- Produce annual finance report
- Manage procurement of goods and services and collection of debts
- Assist in risk assessment and financial planning of new projects
- Manage and continue to assist Finance Coordinator with training
- Liaise with Management Team on remuneration planning
- Liaise with Chief Executive on Risk Management Policy and Risk Register
Board Administration and Corporate Management
- Manage the Board meetings and associated Board Committee schedules and papers
- Ensure Corporate Governance and Company/Charity Law compliance and complete annual returns
- Manage the office facilities including the provision of IT systems
- Manage the company’s administration systems
- Maintain the company’s procedures, policies and operating procedures
Other duties
- Undertake such other administrative or management duties as the Chief Executive may reasonably require
SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS
There will be an element of staff management, with the Finance & Office Coordinator reporting directly to the post holder. The Chief Executive’s Personal Assistant/Office Manager will report directly to the Chief Executive, but will have specific tasks to undertake under the direction of the post holder and for these will report directly to them.

Experience of effectively using the Microsoft Office Suite | Experience of proven competence in using SAGE accounting software and excel spreadsheets |
Knowledge of legislative requirements as they relate to Finance and Corporate Governance | Experience of explaining finance to non finance project managers |
Ability to work on own initiative |
Terms & Conditions
- The appointment is subject to the terms of SBC Contract of Employment.
- The normal working week is 35 hours (pro rata 21 hours for this post
- SBC operates a non-contributory pension scheme in which employees are entitled to participate. SBC makes a 5% contribution against gross annual salary.
- Annual Leave of 25 days per annum plus 10 public (15 days per annum plus 6 public holidays for this post).
- It is a requirement of this post that the post-holder will act responsibly and comply with their duties and responsibilities as identified by the SBC Company Handbook.
- There is a requirement to declare any interests you may have that might cause questions to be raised about your approach to the business of Scottish Business in the Community.
