Prominent guest speakers from industry, government, environment and civic society will inform attendees of the challenges that Scotland faces, helping them to understand what steps need to be taken and the opportunities that there are in achieving a more sustainable environment, economy and society.

Speakers include:

Frank Blin - Executive Chairman

PricewaterhouseCoopers Scotland

Frank is PwC Regional Chairman in Scotland. He has been Head of PwC’s Regional practice and served on PwC’s UK board for ten years. Hi is lead advisor to a number of Scottish public and private companies and entrepreneurs. His specialisms were in UK 9insolvency and corporate finance.

He has served on the boards of ICAS, CBI Scotland, SFE, SCDI and Scottish Enterprise.

Frank leads and champions PricewaterhouseCoopers’ community support programme in Scotland, which has gained external accreditation, securing the Business in the Community Big Tick award two years running (2008 & 2009).

John Swinney - MSP

John Swinney MSP joined the Scottish National Party in 1979 and has held a number of posts within the Party at local and national level. He has been the National Secretary, Vice Convener for Publicity and Deputy Leader before leading the party from 2000-2004.

John was elected as the Member of Parliament for North Tayside on 1st May 1997 in a seat that had once been the safest Conservative seat in Scotland. On 6th May 1999 John was elected as Member of the Scottish Parliament for North Tayside and was re-elected at the 2003 Scottish Parliament Election with an increased majority of 4,503.
He was re-elected as an MSP at the 2007 Scottish Parliament election and appointed Cabinet Secretary for Finance and Sustainable Growth.

Colin Hines – Convenor New Green Deal Group

Colin Hines has worked in the environmental movement for over 30 years and most recently has focuessed on the adverse environmental and social effects of international trade and the need to solve these problems by replacing globalisation with localisation.

He is an advisor to the Green Member of Parliament Dr Caroline Lucas and author of the book ‘Localisation – A Global Manifesto’ (Earthscan).

Prior to this, Colin was Co-ordinator of Greenpeace International’s Economics Unit, having worked for the organisation for 10 years.

Sue Bruce – Chief Executive

Aberdeen City Council

Sue Bruce took up the post of Chief Executive of Aberdeen City Council on 1st December 2008 having previously been Chief Executive at East Dunbartonshire Council. Sue began her local government career with Strathclyde Regional Council in 1976 spending the early part of her career in social and economic regeneration.

Sue has held a number of senior positions, serving in the Strathclyde Rgional Education Directorate until local government re-organisation in 1996 and then she held post of Depute Director of Education with East Ayrshire Council. In 2000 she joined east Dunbartonshire Council initially as a Strategic Director responsible for Education, Housing, Social Work and Cultural Services and a corporate lead role in social inclusion and equalities.

She has served on a number of external Boards and has been involved in wide ranging areas of work as well as national and international initiatives.
