Opportunities for Business
There are a number of ways that businesses can become involved with this agenda:
- Healthy Working Lives Award Programme: the programme encompasses a wide range of topics enabling organisations to select those that are most relevant to their workforce, including health promotion, occupational health and safety, mental health and well-being and employability.
- Job Preparation – Helping job seekers understand what preparing for work involves Eg: CV Writing, Interview techniques, mock interviews, research required etc
- Work Placements: Providing work placments in your business will give job seekers experience of the working world and/ or of a particular industry. Work placements are different from volunteering because the main focus is the development of working skills. SBC’s runs the Ready for Work programme which is an employer led programme that provides 2 week work placements for clients at risk of homelessness.
- Giving Motivational talks – These involve a range of employed people coming to talk about how they got to where they are today, the challenges and rewards and the importance of the top ten
- Buddying: This involves establishing natural supports in the workplace, where a co-worker takes on a mentoring role to support the new employee at work. SBC provides awareness raising and training in mentoring for organisations.
- Supported Employment: Real work for people at a distance from the labour market in an integrated work setting. Ongoing support is provided by an agency with expertise in finding employment for people who are disadvantaged in the labour market
- Disability (two ticks) symbol: Jobcentre Plus awards this to employers who have agreed to meet five commitments regarding the recruitment, employment, retention and career development of disabled people. By using the symbol it will help make it clear to disabled people that you welcome applications from them and are positive about their abilities
