Work Experience Placements

 
Ready for Work 
 
SBC provides 2 week work placements in local businesses for those who have barriers to gaining employment through our Ready for Work programme.
 
The Ready for Work programme is an established evidenced based model that creates training and development opportunities for the long term unemployed. 
 
Ready for Work supports the business to set up the placement, liaises with a local employability agency and trains a member of staff to act as a buddy or mentor.
 
What is a Buddy?
 
Being a Buddy is a challenging personal development. The aim of a buddy is to supervise and manage the individual on placement, build their confidence, increase their awareness of the workplace, learn new skills and provide them with a recent reference.
 
Buddies come from a variety of corporate backgrounds, but all have a number of qualities in common.
 
  • People who want to build relationships with a broad spectrum of people
  • Determined
  • Keen to make a difference to the wider community
 
What are the benefits of becoming a Buddy?
 
  • Develops more effective communication, management and interpersonal skills
  • Develops your supervisory skills
  • Develops your influencing and relationship building skills
  • Builds confidence and motivation for you and the participant
  • Personal satisfaction; direct and positive contribution to the development of someone who has experienced being long term unemployed
  • Develops feedback skills 
 
What will you need to do?
 
Buddies will need to attend a training session and commit to managing the individual for at least two weeks but it could be up to four weeks. You will need to support them to develop, set some goals, provide them with feedback and support them with challenges.
 
What support do Buddies receive?
  • A one day training session, which is delivered by SBC
  • Ongoing support and an open invitation to Buddy Forums where you will have the opportunity to discuss your progress with your SBC Co-ordinator as well as sharing your experience with other Buddies
