Behind the Scenes

craigroyston.jpgWhat is Behind the Scenes Day?
Behind the Scenes Day is an event that encourages employers to open their doors so unemployed adults or young people can visit their offices and enhance their knowledge of the work place and their ability when applying for a job. The event will take place at your business premises and last either 2 or 4 hours. It will run from either 9:30am – 11:30am or 9:30 am - 1:30pm.

How will your staff and business benefit from participating in the day?

Many employees are involved in this sort of activity because it helps to:

  1. Promote their organisation’s CSR agenda and profile in the community
  2. Supports their team building and project management skills
  3. Enhances presentation and facilitation skills.

The day is also very good for staff morale and brings an energetic and fun atmosphere to your workplace.

What will you need to do?

You will need to make sure that there is a key contact in your organisation who can project manage the event. You will need at least 3 staff members to run the day but it would be good to get as many staff involved as possible.

What support is available to you?

The day will need to planned and run by your staff. However, we make it much easier for you by:
  1. Finding a school or community organisation to match you with
  2. Providing you with a draft agenda for the day which you can adapt
  3. Providing you with a manual that goes into more detail about the day, how you can run it and some exercises to use
  4. Providing a briefing meeting for your key contact before your Behind the Scenes Day.

How many people will visit your office?

You should expect a maximum of 12 people from the community organisation or school that you are partnered with for this event. If you are partnered with a school, there will be a teacher accompanying the pupils; if you are partnered with a community organisation, an agency worker will accompany the adults.

What will the day look like?

The manual goes into more detail about how you can run the event. Essentially, the event will consist of the following elements:

  1. Introductions
  2. A tour of your offices
  3. A fun interactive exercise on roles in your office
  4. A fun interactive exercise on “recruitment and selection”
  5. Wrap up and Questions

We hope the guide to organising a team challenge will enable you to plan a successful challenge and gain maximum learning from the experience. Have fun!

quotation marks.jpgThe event was a great success. The students were highly inquisitive and interested in ICAS the structure and the various roles within the organisation. The students were engaged, began asking more questions and their confidence grew the more time they spent with staff. Members of staff, in return, were very responsive, developed their presentation skills and all were extremely keen to assist them in any way they could.quotation marks2.jpg Eileen Murphy, HR Manager ICAS
