Talent and Skills
Scottish Business in the Community encourages our members, as part of their employee volunteering schemes, to provide development opportunities for their staff that also increase the employabilty skills of individuals who face barriers to entering the workplace.
Skills based volunteering is one fo the cornerstones of a successful CSR strategy and in recent years businesses throughout Scotland have become involved in a variety of dynamic ways.
Skills based volunteering includes educational based activiites, where staff work with young people in schools, and also activities designed to help the long term unemployed gain the skills and confidence necessary to return to work.
As well as benefiting the community, businesses have recognised the direct gains to their own company when engaging in these programmes. Staff want to work for a company that cares about its local community, they want to work for a company that is committed to social change and they want to use their skills to make a difference in other people's lives.
SBC provides businesses with advice, information and ideas on how they can develop their employees' skills and also help individuals who are facing barriers to work increase their employability skills.
