EVIP Motor Vehicle Maintenance Group visit BT Fleet

Working with Glasgow City Council Education Department, North Glasgow College and BT Fleet, Scottish Business in the Community in Glasgow arranged a site visit to BT Fleet in Springburn for 10 EVIP Motor Vehicle Maintenance students (6 male & 2 female) on Wednesday 9th February 2011.

Image0BT.jpgThe purpose of the visit was to give the students an insight into the overall background of motor vehicle maintenance and hear first hand from BT Fleet staff.

During the visit, Alan Stanners, Garage Services Manager provided the background information on BT Fleet to the students.  This was followed by a tour of the workshop, where the students were paired and assigned to a mechanic and given the opportunity to assist with some of the work.

All of the students found the visit interesting and were pleased that they had been given the opportunity to participate.

The Enhanced Vocational Inclusion Programme (EVIP) is a Glasgow City Council initiative managed by Education Services in partnership with various Glasgow Colleges.  Its main aim is to enable vulnerable young people who will be entering S4 (14/15 year old) in the next academic session who have become disengaged from mainstream education, an opportunity to study for a vocational qualification together with core and life skills, on a full time basis for 1 year.  Young people work towards improving their employability skills and are given the opportunity to take part in fitness activities as part of their course.  These alternative awards enable young people to develop their employability skills that will help them progress to a positive destination in the future.

SBC Glasgow have also arranged Employer Talks and Site Visits for EVIP Students doing courses on Construction, Hospitality, Engineering, Hair & Beauty and Early Years & Childcare.
