Quick Wins to Save you Energy
We know that businesses are different from one another, with different carbon reduction challenges and opportunities facing each business and sector. Below is a list of tips that are generic to most businesses, but can help cut energy usage in all businesses.
Saving Water
Water saving for businesses
Water bills over a year can account for a large amount of money and sometimes add up for 1% of the business turnover. It is therefore worthwhile to conduct a water usage audit to assess where the water is used in the company. A water business plan can be then implemented and depending on the size and type of your organisation, cost effective systems such as rainwater harvesting and greywater recycling can be applied.
- Educate your employees on the importance and practices of water efficiency
- Monitor leakage by checking meters at night
- Use water efficient appliances in canteens or office kitchens
- Assess the possibility of recycling waste water
- Install water efficient devices in bathrooms and canteens, such a spray taps
- Ensure pipes are well insulated to protect against frost damage
- Undertake a water audit
- Appoint a water monitor to identify minimisation opportunities
- Consider alternative water sources such as rainwater and greywater re-use.
