Save Energy with Lighting
Optimizing the design of a building in order to make the best use of daylight could cut 25% of emissions related to lightings.
If you can't do this, use much cheaper solutions such as replacing old incandescent lights with lowest energy versions. Such simple actions can reduce your emissions related to lighting by half.
Switch off all lights and appliances at night
Use natural lighting wherever possible
Switch to compact fluorescent lamps and slimline tubes (26mm diameter) which typically make immediate savings of up to 50% and last up to ten times longer than typical tungsten bulbs
Install new high frequency fluorescent lighting
Clean light covers
Only use exterior lighting in the hours of darkness
Fit light controls to limit hours of use in the evening
Switch off lights when premises are not occupied
Put up stickers to encourage staff to switch off lights if they are the last to leave
Install movement sensors to automatically switch off lights when no one is in a room
