Quick Wins to Save you Energy
Cut out standby and save £££
The International Energy Agency estimates that standby mode could be causing a full 1% of the world's greenhouse gas emissions, close to what the entire aviation industry emits. Although standby power consumption for most devices is small (0.5 to 10 watts), the number of devices drawings standby is very large, hence the outsized consumption of this "sleeping" energy.
This can include:
- Switching off computers at night and on weekends to reduce energy consumption by up to 75%
- Switching off monitors when they leave their desk for more than five minutes
- Encouraging all staff to switch photocopiers and printers off overnight
- Activating energy saving mode where available on photocopiers, printers and fax machines
- Unplugging mobile phones chargers when they are not in use
