We will work with the Government on policy development - engage with the Scottish Government on policy development, setting out policy measures required to support delivery of the plan and by identifying measures that might adversely limit or restrict delivery.

We will help drive innovation in green technologies - this could be achieved at a number of levels.  At one level this could be identifying and delivering high profile partnership projects as business/government partnerships for example supporting the Government’s sector lead groups.  At another level it could be developing collaborative working between the group to deliver new and innovative ways of doing things though their combined skills. 

We will help to raise awareness of climate change in the business community - support the Scottish Government in increasing awareness of the issues of climate change, act as a leadership group for businesses and support climate change targets and delivery amongst Scottish business.

This would be achieved by exploiting existing mechanisms and working closer with industry bodies and federations including: CBI, SCDI, FSB, SBC and so on. The CCBDG will also share ideas and work closer with relevant national and international committees including the Climate Group and the Committee on Climate Change.

We will encourage other businesses to reduce their own carbon emissions – the group would act as a leadership group for Scottish Businesses and to facilitate sharing of good practice. The MayDay network is the largest collection of business organisations that have made a commitment to reducing their impact on the environment. The CCBDG would support the MayDay network by using their influence in the community to increase membership to the network and by demonstrating strong leadership in the relevant sectors, i.e. consumer behaviour, business engagement, waste, transport, energy and so on.

We will support the 2020 Climate Group – by chairing the sub-group on business engagement we will provide support and links into Scotland’s business community and through joint working with trade and industry bodies.
