Skills Based Volunteering

SBC can offer companies free support in matching and placing volunteers who wish to use their skills to support the development of the third sector. We have two main approaches, one for teams one for individuals.

Partners in Leadership for Community Organisations.

PILCOMM offers business managers and professionals a mentoring programme with a difference. Volunteers are matched to a peer level leader from a social enterprise. Participants not only make a direct and substantial impact to the social and/or environment sector but also experience new ways of doing business, and a new perspective on their own roles. It’s an opportunity to apply and develop skills in a new and interesting environment, while also gaining a broader awareness of the wider economy, society and our nations issues. For more information click Here

Evolve - Team Days

evolve logoThe aim of these development days is to provide small grassroots third sector organisations the opportunity to present their organisations informally to a group of private sector volunteers for questions and scrutiny. In doing so they gain the opportunity to receive an external opinion, the questions you will likely ask will be different to those they might usually receive in their own sector. The organisation will have a key theme or priority of the moment which they would like to discuss with your group. The organisation will be matched to you based on your professional skills and experience, you will work through a faciltyated workshop to creatively address some of the organisations challenges and opportunities.

Evolve is a popular skills option as it is the closest fit to the team challenge model (i.e. one day for a whole team) which people are familiar with.  Its also hugely beneficial for the community organisations involved who so rarely get the opportunity to present their organisation to a group of talented people for discussion. It's also an enjoyable day for all involved. For more information click Here

Other possible routes for volunteers

  • Non executive board positions
  • Development assignments, short term secondments, projects or placements with third sector organisations.
  • Training days, where colleagues would design and run training events on key skills which SBC would advertise to the third sector and vet applications.
