Scottish Business in the Community Awards for Excellence in Scotland

Scottish Business in the Community Awards for Excellence in Scotland

SBC Awards for Excellence Winners 2011

Scottish Business in the Community held their annual Awards and Celebration Dinner on Thursday 2 June at the George Hotel. Edinburgh.

Two Awards schemes featured: The UK Awards for Excellence Scotland winners were announced, along with the SBC Company of the Year Awards. The UK Awards for Excellence are robust, rigorous and peer-assessed awards which demonstrate practical examples of organisations making a real impact on the community and environment, while gaining significant benefits to the sustainability of their business.

Jane Wood, Chief Executive of Scottish Business in the Community, welcomed a high standard of applications, despite the challenges faced by business today. “The current economic situation, pressure on public sector finance, increasing global competition and developments in procurement are driving businesses to create more sustainable business models, impact and engage more effectively with their communities, and help people become economically active.”

“Applications to this year’s Awards for Excellence in Scotland and SBC Company of the Year Awards truly demonstrate the quality of commitment to sustainable business. The high standard of best practice in place is a testament to the work of Scotland’s business sector.”

Winners on the evening included Amey (in Scotland), who received Scottish Business in the Community’s Large Company of the Year with Nairn’s Oatcakes taking the award for SBC’s SME of the Year.

Rabbie’s Trail Burners, RBS, Harpers & Macleod and Scottish Power all received UK Awards for Excellence Big Ticks. The prestigious Big Ticks are awarded to organisations demonstrating best practice in areas including, education, health, environment and community engagement.

Scottish Business in the Community delivered two newly developed awards in recognition of the European Year of the Volunteer. SBC’s Individual Employee Volunteering Award went to Lynn Abernethy of Sodexo and Clydesdale Bank Glasgow received Business Team Volunteering Award for their partnership with Clean Glasgow. Both awards recognise employees whose commitment and dedication to volunteering activities has achieved the greatest impact on communities in Scotland.
