Scottish Business in the Community Awards 2012

Scottish Business in the Community is now accepting entries for the SBC Awards 2012. The awards celebrate businesses that lead the way in responsible and sustainable business practice.

Categories include SBC Large Company of the Year, SBC SME [Small and Medium sized Enterprise] of the Year, and Volunteer and Volunteering Team of the Year.

New categories for this year are the SME Tackling Poverty Award and the Social Enterprise Tackling Poverty Award, which were introduced following the success of SBC’s new Growing Business, Flourishing Communities campaign.

SBC Large and SME of the Year are open to SBC Members only, however the Volunteer, Volunteering and Tackling Poverty Awards are open to non Members. Entry to the SBC Awards is open until 19 March 2012 and all awards are judged by a panel of peers and partners, in all sectors.

Last year’s SBC’s Large Company of the Year winner, Amey (in Scotland), gained recognition for their commitment to employability and skills development and the organisation’s efforts to reduce their carbon footprint.

Gordon Wilson, Account Director for Amey in Scotland, said: “The SBC Awards recognise organisations at the forefront of sustainable development. We strive hard to deliver local training and create employment opportunities whenever possible – particularly for those furthest removed from the workplace.

“By working in close partnership with our key clients and many other local stakeholders, we can help support the local economy and generate better results for the wider community. We are delighted to be recognised on such a high level for our work on this agenda.”

SBC are also managing the UK Awards for Excellence – Scotland, in partnership with Business in the Community, which recognises specific programmes and activities in the field of sustainable business practice. There are 16 categories in these awards and applications should be received by 5 March 2012.

Jane Wood, Chief Executive Scottish Business in the Community, said: “This year Scottish Business in the Community celebrates 30 years at the forefront of responsible business and therefore the SBC Awards 2012 hold added significance.

"Demonstrating just how far Scotland has come in recognising the importance of responsible businesses, we think organisations deserve to be acknowledged for their commitment to sustainable business practices on every level. We expect applications to continue the high standard demonstrated through the years.”

Winners will be announced in the presence of HRH Prince Charles, Duke of Rothesay, at SBC Annual Celebration Dinner in May 2012.
