The Partnership is cutting its carbon emissions and costs

Ten years ago who was taking carbon emissions seriously? Were you losing sleep in 1998 over reports that the developed world's carbon footprint could be storing up potentially catastrophic results for millions of the planet's poorest people? Thought not.

Today all that has changed and no-one (certainly no business) can say they don't know what carbon emissions are. Most scientists now accept that cutting carbon emissions is a priority in the fight against global warming.

The Partnership is one of several retailers taking steps to cut its own carbon emissions; others include Marks & Spencer with its ambitious 'Plan A' and Tesco, which is establishing a fund for investment in sustainable, environmental technology.

They all belong to the Retail Energy Forum, which meets regularly to share best practice on energy efficiency and the built environment. As Bill Wright, Energy and Environment Manager, Corporate, and the Partnership's carbon emissions expert, puts it: 'When it comes to cutting carbon emissions, we have to work together.'
