SEP Conquers Everest!

28 Jan 2008

“There is no fool like an old fool” is how Hamish Wood responds when asked why he decided to cycle to base camp Mount Everest last year. Hamish coordinates SBC’s Senior Executive Programme in the Highlands. A positive individual who enjoys a good challenge, he is not new to going on cycling expeditions and some of his past experiences include crossing America from San Diego to Jacksonville, Vancouver to San Diego, Pyrenees on a Tandem, Andes, New Zealand…the list could go on and on. Hamish did undertake some high altitude training in the local sport centre before he left but still found the physical conditions difficult to endure.  The weather at times was not very encouraging with headwinds and the high altitude making cycling very difficult. When asked if he would ever do it again Hamish indicated that he would love to go back and visit the country but in terms of his next cycling expedition, he is very much looking forward to the warmth and flatness of Cuba this March.
