Kingdom Shopping Centre wins Green Apple Award
28 Aug 2008
Management at The Kingdom Shopping Centre in Glenrothes have just been notified that they are among the major winners in the Green Apple Environment Awards! They will be presented with their Green Apple Award at the House of Commons later this year.
By winning this award the Centre is now also on track to represent the UK in the European Business Awards for the Environment, as the Green Apple awards are one of the few feeder schemes into the International campaign.
The Kingdom Shopping Centre has also been invited to join the National Green Heroes, an elite group of environmental achievers who use their experience to help thousands of others – and the environment – around the world. These plaques will be presented on board the Royal Yacht Britannia in February.
If announced as overall winners in the Green Apple Awards (announced when the trophies are presented) then the Centre will also receive a free spa holiday for two in Aquacity, Slovakia – the world’s most environmentally-friendly resort.
The Green Apple Awards are now in their fifteenth year and attracted more than 500 nominations this year.
They are organised by The Green Organisation, an independent, non political, non-activist, non-profit environment group dedicated to recognising, rewarding and promoting environmental best practice around the world.
Andrew Forrester, Centre Manager at the Kingdom Centre commented “We are absolutely delighted to have achieved this prestigious national award. Owned by CIS Ltd and managed by NB Real Estate, at the Kingdom Shopping Centre we are committed to managing the property in an environmentally responsible and sustainable manner. Over the past two years we have achieved some outstanding results, including a reduction in the Centre’s carbon footprint of over 41%, proving the dramatic results that are possible with effective environmental management. We are very proud to be receiving the Green Apple Award in recognition of our efforts and look forward to our visit to the House of Commons in November to collect the trophy.”
