A Quarter of a Century of Delivering Change: Scottish Business in the Community since 1982

11th Oct 2007

Scottish Business in the Community (SBC) celebrates its 25th Anniversary as Scotland’s leading voice on Corporate Responsibility on Thursday 11th October.

As a prestigious member-led business organisation dedicated to the promotion of responsible business practice across Scotland, SBC enables companies to make their impact on society as positive and productive as possible, whilst gaining tangible business benefits.

Samantha Barber, Chief Executive of SBC, says: “25 years ago responsible business was very different, with a greater focus on philanthropy.  However, Corporate Responsibility is not just about what a company does but how it conducts its business.  Today, consumers, investors and other stakeholders have far higher expectations of companies; they want to see them operate in a responsible way that delivers positive impacts for employees, customers, the environment and our wider society”.

Since its incorporation on 11th October 1982, the role of SBC has continued to grow, moving from an initial focus on community investment to the wider agenda of Corporate Responsibility.

Barber continues: “Looking ahead to the next 25 years, SBC is ambitious to see a greater emphasis placed on the role that Corporate Responsibility can play in delivering a strong, sustainable economy and a fairer and wealthier Scotland for all.

We will continue to increase the number of companies actively engaged in Corporate Responsibility and support and challenge Scottish business to improve their impact on society.”
