Lloyds TSB Gives its backing to the Scottish Family Business Association

24 April 2008

Lloyds TSB Scotland plc has given its backing to the Scottish Family Business Association’s (SFBA) calls for a national strategy that will guide the future planning and development of the family business sector, with a six figure sum sponsorship deal.

The three year sponsorship arrangement will contribute to the association’s activities, which according to Martin Stepek SFBA chief executive will involve galvanising support from policy makers, politicians, professional advisors, the business community, academics and researchers for a national strategy, which will also further the family business sector’s contribution to the Scottish economy.

Stepek explains, “A national strategy has the potential to make Scotland a world leading destination for family business education, research and employment, which would have significant economic impact.  We need joined up thinking and joined up action in order to see the benefits and therefore we are delighted that Lloyds TSB Scotland has come on board with our ambitions and is playing such a supportive role.”

Manus Fullerton, director of corporate and commercial banking, Lloyds TSB Scotland said, “There is a compelling case that a national strategy will provide significant opportunities not just for family owned businesses, but for Scotland as a whole.  With our focus entirely on the Scottish market, we want to lend our support to create a positive difference for everyone, including the large proportion of family owned businesses that we represent.”

A national strategy which supports growth and innovation in the Scottish family business sector will be the key theme of Martin Stepek’s address at a reception being hosted next Tuesday evening [29th April 08] by the First Minister, Rt Hon Alex Salmond MSP, which is expected to be attended by over 100 family business leaders, policy makers, academics and researchers.
