First in Glasgow accredited for environmental excellence

05 Mar 2008

GLASGOW’S major bus operator First is officially one of the greenest public transport operators in Scotland after it landed a prestigious accreditation for environmental excellence.

Following the introduction of a series of environmental and community-based initiatives and the embedding of its environmental management system into its daily operations, First in Glasgow has been awarded the coveted ISO 14001 accreditation – an internationally recognised standard.

Mark Savelli, Managing Director of First in Glasgow, said: “This is a fantastic achievement for our Company and am I delighted that we have been able to so publicly demonstrate both our corporate social responsibility and our commitment to environmental protection in this way.”

Following the accreditation, a presentation event was held at First’s Glasgow headquarters at Larkfield to recognise the efforts of its managers and other staff in helping to achieve the ISO status.

As a leader in the transport industry, First is continuously looking to improve its energy efficiency. For example, new procedures to monitor energy and water consumption have been introduced after First worked closely with energy and water providers to see where efficiencies could be made.

Such activities are monitored closely through monthly meetings and staff are constantly looking to improve performance in these areas.
