Environmental first for HBOS
02 April 2008
HBOS is the first bank to install a new type of more environmentally friendly ATM in the UK.
The new model is being trialled at the Trinity Road office in Halifax. Ten new machines are scheduled to be installed across the ATM network as part of the pilot.
The new models' energy efficient displays have twice the lifespan od regular displays and use one third of the electricity.
The use of LED lighting saves more energy than fluorescent lighting systems. It is estimated that the lighting energy saved by the ten ATMs alone would be enough to boil 5,733 kettles, wash over 1000 loads of laundry or cook more than 400 meals each year using typical home appliances.
ATM receipts are often left by customers after they have used the ATM. The new green ATMs will have the facility to capture recepits not taken by customers, reducing litter.
Liza Vizard, Head of climate change, said: "These new energy efficient ATMs are yet another environmental first for HBOS."
"We are committed to leading the way for green banking."
