Bridging the skills gap with Sainsbury's
22 Feb 2008
A diverse workforce is integral to making Sainsbury’s a great place to work.
This year Sainsbury's joined MENCAP’s WorkRight scheme, to help integrate more individuals with learning disabilities into their stores.
Work placements involve the store management, store trainer, personnel team and line manager all working together to ensure a supportive environment. An individual colleague acts as buddy and the placement is further supported by MENCAP’s own staff.
By the end of 2007/08, 50 placements will have been completed.
Our bakery apprenticeship scheme addresses the critically low number of skilled bakers in the UK.
The scheme provides essential training to equip colleagues with the skills to become fully trained bakers in 12-18 months. The training offers nationally recognised qualifications, including the SNVQ Level 2 and technical certificates.
