Arty Party a Huge Success for Scottish Widows

25 Jul 2007

The Scottish Widows ‘Arty Party’ took place on Saturday 30 June at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre. The day was arranged by the company’s Corporate Communications team to mark the half way point of the Scottish Widows Arts@Work programme.

Arts@Work is a unique initiative, a collaboration with the non-profit organisation Arts & Business that is exclusive to Scottish Widows. Arts & Business exists to help businesses support the arts and for the arts to inspire businesses.

The programme has been designed to bring creativity into the workplace by giving employees a chance to learn new skills and take part in a wide programme including photography, music, drawing, and drama.

The event on 30 June was a roaring success as staff and their families enjoyed the wide range of activities that were on offer.

Workshops on the day ranged from plaster casting, circus skills, belly dancing and salsa lessons through to creative music making and film animation workshops.

Music was provided by amongst others the vibrant drumming band Beats of Brazil, the R’n’B band Konrad and The Tartan Dholies, who showcased Asian drumming at its funkiest.

Employees and their families thoroughly enjoyed themselves at the free event which was attended by over five hundred people. A raffle on the day also helped raise funds for Scottish Widows Charity of the Year, Barnardo’s.

Sylvia Dow, Scottish Widows’ Arts@Business coordinator commented;

“Everyone seemed to have a terrific time at the Arty Party, and it was lovely to see everyone from grandmothers to tiny tots having such a good day.”

“All of us in the Arty Party team were delighted that it went so well. It was a really happy way to mark the halfway point of the Arts@Work programme, and we have lots more on offer over the next six months.”
