Telford Cooks Up Celebrity Chef Partnership
18 Jul 2007
A new partnership between Edinburgh’s Telford College and entrepreneur and celebrity chef Tommy Miah will offer International students a unique opportunity to learn the tricks of the hospitality trade in both Bangladesh and Edinburgh.
After completing an Access course at the Tommy Miah Institute or in one of the other colleges or universities in Bangladesh, students can then study towards an HND in Hospitality at Telford, with the option of an internship. The course covers a range of Hospitality subject areas including Food Production and Hygiene, Food and Beverage Service, Communications, Languages and IT. HND graduates then have the opportunity to work in Scotland for two years without a work permit, under the Fresh Talent Scheme.
Tommy Miah, owner of the award-winning Raj Restaurant and founder and promoter of the International Indian Chef of the Year competition which is held annually at Telford College, will promote the partnership in Bangladesh and help recruit applicants.
Tommy Miah said: “I am very happy to have established this partnership with Edinburgh’s Telford College. The College has first class facilities matched to an outstanding academic track record. I’m confident that, working together, we will be able to provide excellent educational and career opportunities for many young people from Bangladesh”.
John Malone, Associate Principal of Marketing and External Liaison at Telford College, said: “This new agreement continues Telford’s long standing relationship with Tommy Miah and will open up new opportunities for International students wanting to study in Scotland. This is just one example of the many ways in which the College works with Edinburgh employers”.
Telford College is a supporting company of SBC North Edinburgh.
