The Northern Star Business Awards - celebrating the brightest and best in business
05 Oct 2007
On the 27 September, Scottish Business in the Community were represented at the Northern Star Business Awards in Aberdeen by their Programmes Manager, Veronica Ferguson. Veronica was selected, by organisers the Chamber of Commerce, to judge and present the "Socially Responsible Company of the Year" Award.
The "Socially Responsible Company of the Year" was awarded in recognition of a company that demonstrated a significant, ongoing commitment to the local community. Examples of socially responsible projects included external company activity related to charity, community, education, social service and sponsorship.
Speaking on the night, Veronica said, "It is a great pleasure to be here this evening & I would like to thank the organizers of the Northern Star Business Awards for allowing me this opportunity to participate in a fantastic celebration of success and talent within the Business Community in Grampian. The Socially Responsible Award Category was particularly keenly fought, and it is a testament to the wonderful work going on in this area that the panel found judging such a difficult task.
The company who won the award made a very thoughtful submission, which demonstrated that the strategy and approaches to social responsibility are deeply embedded within their business practice, and the external partnerships developed by the business. There was an innovative intervention promoting green travel, encouraging 50% of the staff to change their commuting habits, alongside investment in community through sponsorship of the arts to make the link between “a vibrant artistic & cultural sector and a vibrant community”. They have also made a significant contribution to the education of young scientists by supporting Techfest (the annual festival of Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths) as well as working with local schools on a variety of projects.
The award went to PGL – Production Geoscience Ltd.
