Community Sports Challenge in Aberdeen

25 May 2008

On 24th May SBC Grampian arranged an activities day at Kingscliff Sporting Lodge for 48 young people aged between 12 and 16 years of age and their Community Leaders. It was an “end of term” celebration for those young people from the disadvantaged areas of Aberdeen (Fersands, Middlefield, Northfield, Kincorth and Kaimhill) who had taken part in SBC Grampian’s 2007 Community Sports Challenge.

The activities in which the young people engaged during the day were trapeze trampoline, rock wall, laser quest, archery, rifle shooting, clay pigeon shooting and quad bikes. Those who took part had a very enjoyable time with the highlight being the quad bikes. A close second was Clay pigeon shooting.

One of the Kingscliff instructors commented that it had been a pleasure working with the young people. They were well behaved and listened to the instructions something that many groups of children that age didn’t do.

Alex Gauld Manager SBC Grampian said that the event was a fantastic opportunity for these young people to experience something that they may never be able to access again. He went on to say that although the young people were from different parts of the city it was good to see the friendships that had been forged during the 2007 Sports Challenge being cemented at the event.

Financial sponsorship from of OPITO, Hotchilli, Maersk Oil North Sea and Business Network Scotland enabled the event to be staged. First provided the transport to take the young people to and from the event and John McKenzie of Photographic Solutions took some wonderful photographs which were given to the Community Groups as a souvenir of their day.
