Ready Steady Cook at Drumchapel High School

Judges savour the dishes on offer, as pupils await the outcome

30 S2 girls from Drumchapel High School took part in Ready Steady Cook (just like on TV) on Wednesday 14th November. It was Women’s Enterprise Day and the girls were only too happy to skip class and get into the kitchen! There were 8 teams of girls all with their very own chef. SBC, through its Closing the Gap programme, arranged for the Holiday Inn Glasgow Airport, Holiday Inn Theatre Land, The Beardmore Hotel and Glasgow Met college to provide the chefs for the day.

Teams were given a £5 pack of goodies consisting of some meat products, vegetables, fruit, pastry and other delights. They were given 15 minutes to decide on what they were going to cook then 40 minutes to prepare a main course and another course.

A mixture of delights were made, some groups made 4 courses and worked their chef’s imagination to the brink. All teams worked very hard at the cleaning up as well as the cooking.

Our judges for the day were Alan from Portifino Catering in Drumchapel and Marcello the General Manager of Holiday Inn Glasgow Airport. Groups were judged on the dish choice, taste, quality and presentation. The judges commented on how it was difficult to pick a winner as they all had worked so hard and put in a huge amount of effort. The winning team received prizes from Determined to Succeed.

Thanks noted to all chef’s and judges.
