Mentoring for Success in Glasgow

John Lewis Mentors

Through SBC's Closing the Gap Programme, partners at John Lewis Partnership in Glasgow have recently completed their third year of providing a very successful mentoring programme for S3/S4 pupils at Saint Rochs Secondary School.  Partners of the store are given the opportunity to volunteer as a Mentor for up to 2 pupils, and meet them on a monthly basis to help pupils build their confidence and employability skills, building up to a week long work placement within the store which gives the pupils the opportunity to work within various departments.

To celebrate another successful mentoring programme, the mentors and mentees were invited to a Celebration Ceremony at John Lewis on 12th November.  The 20 pupils who completed  the mentoring programme were all presented with a certificate from Lesley Ballantyne, the store’s Managing Director.  Claire Gunn from Saint Roch’s New Learning Community thanked all the Partners who volunteered as mentors as well as John Lewis Partnership for their continued support to the school.
