Making it in business, in Glasgow

21 May 2008

Partick Burgh Halls has never been as busy as it was on Wednesday 21st May, when 90 S2 and S3 pupils from the 8 Mild Learning Difficulties Schools got together with business partners to take a closer look at the world of employment.  The pupils were split into groups, mixed with pupils from all the 8 schools taking part  - Hollybrook, Ashcraig, St Joan of Arc, St Aidens, St Vincents, St Oswalds, Abercorn and Parkhill.   There were 10 groups, each with 2 business partners (from the same company) and they were all assigned the following challenge.

The business partners took 10 minutes to tell the group a little bit about their company and the type of work undertaken, they also told the pupils about their own roles within the company, etc.  The pupils were then assigned the task of preparing a poster and a short presentation to pass on the information they have learned to all the other groups.  At the end of the challenge each group carried out a quick presentation to everyone.  Councillor Danny Alderslowe had the most challenging task of the day in selecting a winning team as the work each team produced was incredible.

We will follow this event up by copying all the posters and making sure that each school taking part receives a copy of each to be displayed or referred back to in class.

The event was supported by business partners from all sectors and our thanks go out to:-
