Financial Awareness at Springburn Academy

Ronald Courtney of the Chartered Institute of Bankers with the pupils

Springburn Academy ran a Financial Awareness Morning on the 15th February in partnership with SBC Glasgow's Closing the Gap initiative,

Pupils from S1 – S3 (over 350 pupils) were involved in the event with attendees from various financial and financially related organisations.

The aim was to make pupils more ‘money aware’ and open their eyes to organisations able to assist them with money matters.

The event was very successful for pupils with many of them applying for savings accounts with the recently set up school bank.

There was even a prize from Gemap for the pupil who could name the amount of debt in the UK. (UK consumers now owe around £1,200 million)

The school were very pleased with the attendance and information from the organisations and hope to run a similar event in the future.

The attendees were:

Chartered Institute of Bankers

Dunfermline Building Society

Norwich Union

Gemap

Glasgow Metropolitan College

Illegal Money Lending Team

Greater Milton and Possil Park Credit Union

Social Work – Welfare Rights and Money Advice Team

North Glasgow Advice Centre

Royal Bank of Scotland
