Taking action with your customers

Working with customers to take action on climate change involves both making information on the carbon footprint of your products and services publicly available and raising customer awareness of how they too can reduce their carbon footprint.

Providing information to customers
To make the most of the opportunities of a low carbon economy, your business can make information on the carbon footprint of its products and services available to customers.  Carbon labelling schemes are an increasingly popular way of doing this and allow your business to differentiate your products and services from competitors.

Providing your customers with the information needed to make informed decisions in the marketplace will promote new low carbon products and further carbon reductions through your business’ value chain.

Raising customer awareness
Your business should also provide information to customers on the least carbon-intensive way of using your products and services.  Examples include electrical appliance manufacturers advising customers to turn goods off at the mains, or mobile phone makers suggesting that customers should unplug rechargers after use.
