The Pledges

Please also note that the suggestions we give below are only examples of partner organisations who can assist you in taking action. Scottish Business in the Community will work with all May Day Companies to assess their needs and sign-post them to the most relevant organisation.

Pledge 1: Calculate your company’s carbon footprint (Required)

Include, at a minimum, direct emissions and emissions from electricity consumption. Carbon Trust offers a basic carbon footprint tool, http://www.carbontrust.co.uk/solutions/CarbonFootprinting

Pledge 2: Report your carbon footprint publicly or to Scottish Business in the Community (Required)

All companies that commit to, and fulfill, pledges 1 and 2 will be able to use the May Day Network logo

Pledge 3: Set an absolute target and take action to reduce your company’s emissions (Required)

Next year, we will challenge the May Day Network to reduce its aggregate carbon footprint by 5% by 2012 (from a 2008 baseline)

Pledge 4: Encourage employees to reduce their carbon footprint at home and at work (Required)

Pledge 5: Work in partnership with suppliers to reduce emissions in the supply chain (Required)
